Inq28: Inquisition War Warband
In a previous post I suggested I may try to put together a small warband to represent Jaq Draco and his retinue. Ian Watson did an excellent job on these baroque grimdark novels about the adventures of Inquisitor Draco. I think it was the first Inquisition novel to come out of the Black Library.
After some searching I found this forum post full of ideas. I hunted up a couple models on eBay and waited for them to arrive.
The goateed head of Scout Sgt. Telion and the body of this generic inquisitor are perfect for Inquisitor Draco, plus I never liked the mask on this model. The Lhamaean will make a suitable Melindi, and of course Grimm the Squat. I still need to find a navigator, or a suitable model to convert as such.
Scout Sgt. Telion and a Dark Eldar lhamaean arrived and I got to work while watching the new season of House of Cards (Kevin Spacey is fucking ruthless). A bit of clipping and a lot of careful grinding got the inquisitor model ready for the head swap, The lhamaean weapons were easily clipped and replaced with a power sword from Mad Robot Miniatures. The laspistol is from the same source, but only a place holder for now. I'll also have to trim up off a bit of the xenos detail and cover more with some careful greenstuff work, but she should make for the elegant courtesan described in Watson's novels. I'm on the fence about replacing Grimm's old school lasgun with a boltgun.
In other news I got my Armoured Containers set all trimmed and assembled. Now they go into a box with all the rest of my plastic scatter terrain. Watch for a post detailing the contents and my plans for it.
Cheers,
CJ

Lazy Friday Evening with Macharius
I'm sitting on the stoop reading the Angel of Fire in the cool June breeze (that won't last...) and with $2 in my hand. I'm enjoying the opening of the Macharian Crusade and waiting for the corn lady to come by. Good times. It's not the first ear I've had this season but its close. The corn lady brings fresh sweet corn then coats it in mayo, Parmesan cheese, and chili powder. This stuff is delicious.
I should probably be working on some models or terrain but its too nice out. I'll have to come inside eventually to post this.. until then I'm killing time with the remaining crewmen of the Indomitable and one of my favorite Imperial commanders.
Cheers,
CJ

I'll not waste words here. The attack on the Triumph! The way he takes out Esarhaddon with the void shield collapse? I'm just past Inshabel's visit to Ocean House and holy shit how did I ever miss these novels!? I'm a Dan Abnett fan. I'm waiting for The Warmaster eagerly. I love his work in the HH series, on Guardians, on the Annihilation Wave... THE PUNISHER!! my all-time favorite comic character.
These are great stories. I have to say, my favorite part of Titanicus was the glimpse of life in the habs. Well, favorite not giant robot stompy death part. Every glimpse of life in the work-a-day Imperium of Man is pretty fucking dark, you gotta admit. The nobility gets paid of the backs of the rest. You might get chain-ganged into a work detail and never see home again. Hell you might not see next week. Nascent psykers, cultists... I think the story of Eisenhorn losing his hand is the best example of what I mean.
I'm going to go read until I fall asleep.
Cheers!

On the Shelf
I'm in Barnes & Noble at The Gateway SLC, perusing the latest scifi offerings, and to my surprise there are 10 Black Library books.
Here is a list of em:
The Emperor's Gift - Aaron Dembski-Bowden
The Macharian Crusade Angel of Fire - William King
Dead Winter - C.L. Werner
Path of the Seer - Gav Thorpe
Void Stalker - Aaron Dembski-Bowden
Phalanx - Ben Counter
Ultramarines The Second Omnibus - Graham McNeill
Gotrek and Felix The Anthology
The Best of Hammer and Bolter vol I
- both edited by Christian Dunn
Now there has been BL novels available for quite some time at B&N, but this is the first time I've ever seen so many at once on the new rack, regardless of how many had been released... And it makes me happy.
