Inq28: Inquisition War: Lexandro D'Arquebus

Here is the completed Lex D'Arquebus. Unfortunately I'm no closer to finishing Draco or the rest of his retinue at this moment.

And a little preview of the new law in the sump...

Cheers!

Inq28: The Guilder

This is Mad Robot Miniatures 'The Guilder.' I am a big fan of this model. As soon as I saw the preview Mad Robot Steve put on his facebook page I knew how I wanted him to look.

When he arrived I decided to get him cleaned up and painted straight away. After a bath in warm soapy water to remove any mould release agent I basecoated the miniature with Rustoleum grey primer. Once that set I gave him an overbrush of Ceramite White, and from there I had at him with washes and glazes. The finish on the fabric is exactly what I wanted. I used Testors Model Master Turn Signal Amber quite a bit, in all the yellow and gold in fact. It has proven to be a versatile paint. To think I bought it by mistake.

Getting The Guilder knocked out is great on two fronts: firstly it gets me my 'Buy a model and paint it within 48 hours' stamp. Secondly I plan to get great mileage outta him as either a dubious or outright villainous NPC for some Inq28 games.

Ten stamps not including the freebie box! Stay tuned as I try and fill the card.

Inq28: Witch Hunter 003

I've been working on a little of everything since I finished up my Squaduary pledge. Now before I discovered Monster March I had planned to do some work on my Inq28 warbands.

First thing was to find everyone a base. I made custom bases for this warband last year. Once I got everyone squared away the next step is to get the two painted Imperial Priests cleaned up.

I went to my go to stripper, brake fluid. This stuff is awesome. Different people recommend different methods of cleaning off models and this is mine. It works wonders.

I used a toothbrush and a pick to work all the paint off the model. I was surprised how thick the paint had been slathered on these guys but two soaks were enough to handle it. I will leave the models in the jar for 24 hours and then go to work. Once the easy layers sloughed off they went back in the jar for another hour or two, then I went to work with the pick. Pick and rinse, pick and rinse.

After the priests were clean I got everyone pinned to their bases and threw a basecoat of black primer over em. Getting a pin in the cyberhound's paw was a pain but it worked. Now I just need to work out what colours I want to paint everyone.

Cheers,

CJ

Inq28: Inquisition War Warband

In a previous post I suggested I may try to put together a small warband to represent Jaq Draco and his retinue. Ian Watson did an excellent job on these baroque grimdark novels about the adventures of Inquisitor Draco. I think it was the first Inquisition novel to come out of the Black Library.

After some searching I found this forum post full of ideas. I hunted up a couple models on eBay and waited for them to arrive.

The goateed head of Scout Sgt. Telion and the body of this generic inquisitor are perfect for Inquisitor Draco, plus I never liked the mask on this model. The Lhamaean will make a suitable Melindi, and of course Grimm the Squat. I still need to find a navigator, or a suitable model to convert as such.

Scout Sgt. Telion and a Dark Eldar lhamaean arrived and I got to work while watching the new season of House of Cards (Kevin Spacey is fucking ruthless). A bit of clipping and a lot of careful grinding got the inquisitor model ready for the head swap, The lhamaean weapons were easily clipped and replaced with a power sword from Mad Robot Miniatures. The laspistol is from the same source, but only a place holder for now. I'll also have to trim up off a bit of the xenos detail and cover more with some careful greenstuff work, but she should make for the elegant courtesan described in Watson's novels. I'm on the fence about replacing Grimm's old school lasgun with a boltgun.

In other news I got my Armoured Containers set all trimmed and assembled. Now they go into a box with all the rest of my plastic scatter terrain. Watch for a post detailing the contents and my plans for it.

CJ

Inq28: So Many Options...

I've managed to score on eBay, and in a big way.

This is the result of three lots and worth every single red cent I paid. When I started looking for priests for Witch Hunter Lutor's retinue, these lots crossed my radar and I couldn't help myself. I don't know whether these models will remain stock or be converted or even completely cannibalized.

I even got a Squat in there.,, my very first.

Workbench Update

Just because I don't have a decent camera doesn't mean I've stopped working. My Abhuman Techno-heretics have gotten some reinforcement.

I've also gotten some ideas to coalesce from fragments into something actionable and have set upon this heap of styrofoam.

The Witchhunter's Retinue has a new member...

And I've got lots of new characters to paint up or convert. This is just a few of them.

I should have my good phone fixed this week, Stay tuned for progress on a few fronts.

Cheers,

CJ

Inquisimunda: Van Saar Mercenaries

I have fond memories of picking up some Van Saar from eBay to flesh out a Hive Gang Militia unit for my Steel Legion army many, many moons ago. These guys came painted up in the standard Van Saar green and really contrasted well with the other hivers I had thrown together by mixing Catachans and Empire Militia. Sadly, those models are all long gone.

With the rumored return of Necromunda and the looming release of Shadow War Armageddon I decided to put together another Van Saar gang. I thought about picking up some first or second edition GW models and instead picked up some Vanderbilt Fighters from Mad Robot Miniatures. These resin minis capture the feel of the original gang perfectly in my humble opinion.

The Mad Robot kit included six adults and four youth. In the narrative I'm building my mercenaries are Mechanicus aligned. In that vein I armed my juves with Flechette Blasters and one of my gangers with a Radium Carbine. If I ever get to a game of Necromunda they'll count as more mundane weapons that look cool. For the Inq28 games I have planned (someday...) these guys will be armed exactly as they look.

The weather has been unseasonably nice these past couple weeks so I got some painting done. After a primer coat of Testors flat black acrylic I gave the models a coat of Orkhide Shade, then a coat of Snot Green, and finally a wash of Thraka Green. I haven't gotten any more done at the time I get this posted, but I do have a plan.

Cheers,

CJ

Inq28: The Witchhunter 002

I've been lazy about posting of late. I've been working on my Ordo Hereticus warband despite the lack of updates.

Firstly, a list for this little detachment. I'm using the Codex: Inquisition detachment list. The one in Imperial Agents doesn't quite fit what I need. The Cyber-mastiffs are going to be counts as Arco-flagellants and their Arbites handler will be the counts as Crusader

Ordo Hereticus Warband

  Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Lutor
  • bolt pistol
  • powersword
  Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband
    Crusader                   x1
    Arco-flagellant          x3
    Ministorum Priest      x5
  • eviscerator       x5
  • plasmagun
  • plasma pistol
  • autogun
  • bolt pistol         x2
Secondly I'm just about done with the unit. I have all the models I need.

My Mad Robot backpacks came in and I got that all set up to carry Inquisitor Lutor's myriad gunna. I also finished the powerplant on the baroque power sword he carries. I'm still working on sculpting that arm to match the torch arm.

Witchhunter Lutor is standing on his new base in the above photos. I've got bases for everyone in the unit, modeled after the deck of the technobridge. I'll cover those plans in another post.

Cheers

Inq28: The Witchhunter

The first model I have put time into in 2017 is my Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor. Witchhunter Lutor, the 40k equivalent of Witchhunter Gero from Mordheim. I decided against using Gideon Lorr to head this warband.

I was quite proud of that sculpt, the hat especially. The varnish ended up way to glossy and no matter what I tried it never toned down.

As mentioned in a previous post, I am building this new warband to reflect my old one. So a Witchhunter Inquisitor will lead five priests with chainswords that count as eviscerators. The Empire Priest will be an Arbites Enforcer. I've got one priest, one of the old Imperial Missionary models. I decided to track down the other Imperial Missionary as well as the Imperial Priest models to fill the other four slots. More on them once they arrive. The hounds are accounted for,

Witchhunter Lutor is armed with a powersword with antique hotshot laslock inbuilt. The sword comes from the Empire Freeguild Outrider kit unless I miss my guess. The torch comes from the Flagellant kit, the body is from the Bretonnian Men at Arms kit, and the head from the Space Marine Scout kit. I have to greenstuff his left arm into place as well as some gubbinz on the sword. After that I'll be waiting on some backpacks from Mad Robot Miniatures to arrive before I can finish him up.

Cheers,

CJ

Witch Hunter Warband

Once upon a time I had a Witch Hunters warband for that wonderful game Mordheim. It was a lot of fun to play with even if I didn't do that well overall. Late last night I had an idea...

A couple recent eBay wins have netted me two cybermastiffs from the Enforcers kit, as well as the Forgeworld Event Only Enforcer and hound. While trying to figure out what exactly I'd use these models for I remembered my old warband. I had three hounds then and I will have three here soon enough. Why not build a 40k equivalent? The original band had a Captain, a Priest, five Flagellants, and aforementioned hounds.

Remember this guy? I do believe he'll make a good 'captain'. The Enforcer will serve for my 'priest', and the hounds are covered, of course. 'Flagellants' threw me for a while until I remembered the Sisters of Battle mob, the Frateris Militia. These guys are utter wackos and will serve well. Even better, they seem to have an abundance of Eviscerator Chainswords available. I've got Uriah Jacobus to count as one of the rabble.

This will be a fun little project to work on in the future. I don't expect the hounds or Enforcer and hound until the end of the month. In the mean time I'll carry on building until Winter truly arrives.

Cheers,

CJ

Inq28: Kill Team Completed!

I finished my kill team for the /r/warhammer40k summer challenge, and managed to do so with a couple days to spare. I thought painting would take me right to the wire. Now that all the submissions are in I'm ready to reveal my mystery characters. If you're a redditor you ought to go vote!

Enter Gideon Lorr and Uriah Jacobus! These are a couple of my favorite character models. When the Witchhunters Codex was released Gideon Lorr was a limited edition release. I never managed to get one then, but the through the magic of eBay I was able to pick one up. Uriah Jacobus was a Sisters of Battle release (I think... I'm having a bitch of a time trying to find history on the fig) and I think I had one on my conversion fodder pile years ago and never did anything with it.

For my kill team I picked an inquisitor, a priest, and three veterans. I added purity seals to Jacobus and the veterans to help tie them together with something besides similar colours... which I also relied on. Red and gold feature across all the models. The veterans all have shotguns to better help heretics and mutants find the Mercy of the Emperor's Divine Light along side the priest. Lorr is armed with a plasma pistol and his bad ass hat.

Now in an actual game I have no idea how these guys will do and I don't know whether or not I'll get one in anytime soon.

Cheers,

CJ
