I got one! I've been too busy lately to do anything but snipe new toys so no photos of anything to share. I've not even had time to look into a photo solution yet. I found a deal on an unpainted Realm of Battle and jumped on it... why not? I've wanted a single tile to do an Armies on Parade style display board but no luck so far so...
Anyway I got a layer of primer on two of the six sections so far, and paint is coming soon. I'm debating whether or not to modify any of the boards. Right now storage won't be too bad; I can keep em in the original sleeves and in the original box.
Idle hands and all that so having plenty of work is definitely a good thing. I've also gotten a few of the Sector Mechanicus terrain kits so far and I am really really excited about the Necromunda announcement. I hope to spend quite a bit of this winter building and painting my underhive.
Cheers!

I hate you, Photobucket
<no images for you!>
Things will be quiet for the time being while I figure out some image hosting solutions. I've been using Photobucket for years and while a fee for 3rd party hosting makes sense this 400$ is fucking ridiculous. I've paid happily for extra bandwidth in the past. I've been using their hosting service since 2006. After some hunting about the issue on the web I checked my spam folder and sure enough there was a notice about some features on my account being disabled...
I'm bulk downloading all my images and plan leaving the site for good.
It's going to take some time but I intent to get everything sorted here.
Cheers,
CJ

Imperial Space Marine 001
A little over a year ago I ventured out to secure my little plastic piece of 40k history. Huzzah!
Well I finally got him put together this past weekend.
This, like all the other one sprue GW models I've seen, went together with ease.
For the base I went with some resin embellishments from the 40k Basing Kit. You can still find these on eBay (if you're willing to pay for em). I got two over the last six months and not too pricey so I lucked out.
This guy will be painted up as an Iron Hands Astartes. I sort of have an idea of how to ruin this perfectly good model to make it a bit more thematically appropriate for the marines of the X Legion.
Cheers,
CJ

Inq28: Inquisition War Warband
In a previous post I suggested I may try to put together a small warband to represent Jaq Draco and his retinue. Ian Watson did an excellent job on these baroque grimdark novels about the adventures of Inquisitor Draco. I think it was the first Inquisition novel to come out of the Black Library.
After some searching I found this forum post full of ideas. I hunted up a couple models on eBay and waited for them to arrive.
The goateed head of Scout Sgt. Telion and the body of this generic inquisitor are perfect for Inquisitor Draco, plus I never liked the mask on this model. The Lhamaean will make a suitable Melindi, and of course Grimm the Squat. I still need to find a navigator, or a suitable model to convert as such.
Scout Sgt. Telion and a Dark Eldar lhamaean arrived and I got to work while watching the new season of House of Cards (Kevin Spacey is fucking ruthless). A bit of clipping and a lot of careful grinding got the inquisitor model ready for the head swap, The lhamaean weapons were easily clipped and replaced with a power sword from Mad Robot Miniatures. The laspistol is from the same source, but only a place holder for now. I'll also have to trim up off a bit of the xenos detail and cover more with some careful greenstuff work, but she should make for the elegant courtesan described in Watson's novels. I'm on the fence about replacing Grimm's old school lasgun with a boltgun.
In other news I got my Armoured Containers set all trimmed and assembled. Now they go into a box with all the rest of my plastic scatter terrain. Watch for a post detailing the contents and my plans for it.
Cheers,
CJ

Terrain: Sewers 002
The sections for my sewer are largely ready for paint and I decided to try something new instead of the usual PVA, paint, and water.
This stuff is pretty good. Your mileage may vary but I got all the main pieces of my sewers triple coated with spray primer. I think with extruded styrofoam sheets it will work better. The expanded polystyrene just has too much exposed area to do any less...
This is my fault. I gave this piece two coats of primer and didn't give it time to dry properly before giving it a coat of black. You can see I ended up getting a cool looking texture for my efforts. Seeing this patterning was enough to make me slow down and give the other pieces time to dry properly.
Overall I like this foam primer. I'll probably keep using it in the future since I have quite a few projects planned to use all this foam I've accumulated.Cheers,
CJ

Saturday Workbench Update
This weekend finds me with a terrible need to organize. The Land of Unfinished Projects is full of unrest since its packed to bursting.
So I headed to the store and picked up a cheap shelf and some Rubbermade leftover bins. These are great and I've been using them for bits and projects for a couple years. If you decide to use these then go get new ones and don't loot em from the kitchen it helps for peace and happiness in the household.
I promise.
And there we go! Some of my mess is more contained. I've got plenty of room on these shelves to actually corral my ever expanding selection of bits for modelling and terrain construction. The leftover bins will be great for keeping projects together when I'm not working on them. Protip: sharpie wipes off these bins with a bit of alcohol on a tissue or whatever, so don't be afraid to write on them,
Everything else is on hold while I get this under control.
Cheers,
CJ

Inq28: So Many Options...
I've managed to score on eBay, and in a big way.
This is the result of three lots and worth every single red cent I paid. When I started looking for priests for Witch Hunter Lutor's retinue, these lots crossed my radar and I couldn't help myself. I don't know whether these models will remain stock or be converted or even completely cannibalized.
I even got a Squat in there.,, my very first.
Cheers,
CJ

Terrain: Sewers 001
Remember this from a couple weeks ago? Well most of it is still there but in different shapes. I've been at it with a big knife forming interesting sewer-ish shapes.
Here's the first one just about ready for some paint. I've used some scrap wire to make the cables attached to the wall, and flexi-straws to make the pipes. ½" metal cloth mesh I scavenged from somewhere or other is what I used for the guard rail, and thin card on the back side. This piece will sit on a 24" tile, one of the corners. All styrofoam pieces on the edges will be clad in cardboard to help protect it. The ladder is from the Cities of Death extras frame.
I don't plan an overly complicated sewer, and hopefully this will help me to finish this project in a timely manner... yeah right.
Cheers!

30k: Iron Warriors 002
Finally have some more progress to share on my Horus Heresy Iron Warriors.
The first 15 models have been basecoated with Rustoleum Titanium Silver spray. These should prove rather simple to get painted up once I get the hazard chevrons done. I really want to get some painting done on these models this weekend.
Cheers,
CJ

Workbench Update
Just because I don't have a decent camera doesn't mean I've stopped working. My Abhuman Techno-heretics have gotten some reinforcement.
I've also gotten some ideas to coalesce from fragments into something actionable and have set upon this heap of styrofoam.
The Witchhunter's Retinue has a new member...
And I've got lots of new characters to paint up or convert. This is just a few of them.
I should have my good phone fixed this week, Stay tuned for progress on a few fronts.
Cheers,
CJ

Five Years On...
I've been indigent, belligerent, and indifferent in turns over the past 60 months. Somehow I've kept on, and will continue to do so. I'd like to thank my followers and everyone who has contributed to the nearly 150k views I've garnered here so far.
Here are a few projects that I rather enjoyed over the past years.
Deathwatch Contemptor
Inq28 Mercenary
My abhuman technoheretics
(not) Creed
Some terrain
My Treadbikes
My many, many Mechanicus themed projects...
I'd like to say I've got five more fruitful blogging years coming but who knows? I'll take it one post at a time here and keep plodding along.
Cheers!

We Broke It!
By 'It' above I mean my phone, and by default my camera. And by we I mean me. Don't throw your phone at the bed, ladies and gentlemen.
I'll get it fixed in the next week or two, in the mean time content will be sparse.
Cheers.

Inquisimunda: Van Saar Mercenaries
I have fond memories of picking up some Van Saar from eBay to flesh out a Hive Gang Militia unit for my Steel Legion army many, many moons ago. These guys came painted up in the standard Van Saar green and really contrasted well with the other hivers I had thrown together by mixing Catachans and Empire Militia. Sadly, those models are all long gone.
With the rumored return of Necromunda and the looming release of Shadow War Armageddon I decided to put together another Van Saar gang. I thought about picking up some first or second edition GW models and instead picked up some Vanderbilt Fighters from Mad Robot Miniatures. These resin minis capture the feel of the original gang perfectly in my humble opinion.
The Mad Robot kit included six adults and four youth. In the narrative I'm building my mercenaries are Mechanicus aligned. In that vein I armed my juves with Flechette Blasters and one of my gangers with a Radium Carbine. If I ever get to a game of Necromunda they'll count as more mundane weapons that look cool. For the Inq28 games I have planned (someday...) these guys will be armed exactly as they look.
The weather has been unseasonably nice these past couple weeks so I got some painting done. After a primer coat of Testors flat black acrylic I gave the models a coat of Orkhide Shade, then a coat of Snot Green, and finally a wash of Thraka Green. I haven't gotten any more done at the time I get this posted, but I do have a plan.
Cheers,
CJ
